The inaugural Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon premieres in 2010 on Labor Day weekend, marking the fourth event in the Wine Country Half Marathon Series produced by Destination Races alongside the Napa-to-Sonoma, Santa Barbara and Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathons.
Experience the warmth and charm of the Willamette Valley when the weather is ideal and the vines are full and ready for harvest. This scenic course meanders through the heart of the valley in Yamhill County, beginning at magnificent Stoller Winery and finishing in the town of Carlton for the popular post-race Wine & Music Festival. Less than an hour south of Portland this area is dotted with small towns, orchards, Christmas tree farms, vineyards and ranches. The Willamette Valley is recognized as one of the finest Pinot Noir producing regions in the world and is home to over 200 wineries.

Many of Oregon's finest wineries will be welcoming you to the inaugural Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon. Willamette Valley is recognized for its outstanding Pinot Noir and the many other varietals that thrive in Oregon. You're sure to be impressed with the view at the start from Stoller Vineyards and Winery. You'll then run through the heart of the Willamette Valley finishing in the town of Carlton where we'll have our most unique post event ever. We've partnered with the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, Ken Wright Cellars, Chehalem Mountains Winegrowers, and the Oregon Agri-Business Council to bring you the ultimate wine and food themed destination running event in the country.
Oregon has so much to offer, we hope if you are an out-of-town visitor you allow some time to explore the city of Portland and the Willamette Valley. We've aligned a very full schedule of activities for this inaugural event. The festivities start with our early packet pickup party in Portland at the Avalon Hotel & Spa on Thursday evening. On Friday you can explore the course and visit the start area at Stoller Vineyards and Winery while enjoying music, catered food, wine and games. Saturday is the race expo at The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg. Chahelam Mountain Vineyards will be pouring wines at the expo and offering specials at their member wineries. Race day is packed with all types of festivities for participants and their family and friends in Carlton and at Abbey Road Farm, which is hosting a viewing breakfast and finishers party. For a full list of activities go to the Event Schedule. To sign up for these activities click on Registration Extras.
Dane Rauschenberg ran 52 consecutive weekend marathons in 2006, while working a full-time job in a patent licensing firm in Washington DC. And during the last weekend of April this year, he took on the 12 person, 202 mile American Odyssey Relay - by himself! Finishing in just a shade over 50 hours, Dane continues to amaze and inspire, especially since his running career began just a few years before his 52 Marathon adventure. We are happy to have Dane at our race this year where he will not only be signing copies of his book 'See Dane Run', but also speaking about his experiences on these long distance running endeavors. You can hear him speak at our fabulous race dinnner at the Allison Inn & Spa on Saturday night. Registration is limited to 80ppl. Sign up now!
It's official. The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon course is exactly 13.1 miles. So, if you're planning to set a half marathon record, or use your time to quaify for another race, your time will now be official! The course certification number is posted on the course information page. A new, detailed mile-by-mile description of the course is available with ratings on course difficulty and scenery, our most important criteria. The new Oregon course does well in both preliminary ratings. Run the course and give us your feedback.
Regardless of which direction you are coming from, or whether you prefer to park at the start or finish, you will have plenty of options on race day. The main transportation center is located at Wennerberg Park in Carlton (near the race finish and Wine & Music Festival) but you can also park or be dropped at Stoller Winery (start area). Buses will also leave from McMinnville, The Allison Inn & Spa and Avalon Hotel in Portland (must sign up and pay for ticket). Return buses will leave from Pine St. in Carlton next to the festival from 9:30 to noon and runner and spectator buses will service Abbey Road Farm. See the Parking & Transportation page for more information.
