Course Information

This 13.1 mile course runs through Yamhill Valley which is in the heart of the Willamette Valley, within four American Viticultural Areas (Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, Chehalem Mountains, and Ribbon Ridge). The race starts at Stoller Vineyards and Winery, perched on a hill just outside the towns of Lafayette and Dundee.

Once out of the gates of Stoller, runners will soon make their way through a small residential section of Lafayette, and then begin a scenic three-mile journey along Abbey Rd. (Can you hear the Beatles album playing on your iPod?) The transition area is located at the entrance to Abbey Road Farm B&B just before mile 6. From here runners will take a sweeping left onto Hendricks Road and start heading west for two miles. At mile 8 the course veers right onto Yamhill and then Rowland roads for a 3.5 mile scenic loop around farmland on a gravel road. This is a very peaceful section of the course providing wide vistas of the Yamhill Valley. This gravel section ends as runners re-enter Hendricks Road and Main St. for the final mile into the finish area on Pine St. in downtown Carlton.

The course has a few rolling hills, with a minimum elevation of 161 ft. and a maximum of 299 ft. The course starts at 220 feet elevation and finishes at 187 feet for a net elevation gain/loss of minus 33 feet. There are seven aid stations and medical support on course.

Aid Stations

Seven aid stations will be placed on-course between the start and finish areas. These stations are mostly staffed by the Yamhill-Carlton Booster Club. They are placed on-course at key locations and intervals approximately 1.5 to 2.0 miles apart. Water will be offered at each aid station and HEED sports drink from Hammer Nutrition will be provided at each even-numbered aid station. Porta-Potties are placed at three of the aid stations on course and at the start area at Stoller.

Gels and/or energy bars are provided at the expo and the start area but will not be placed at aid stations due to environmental concerns. Bring your own if you wish to consume them on course and please discard wrappers in trash receptacles at aid stations, or put them in your pocket… not alongside the road. Thank you!

Please show your appreciation to volunteers as you pass each aid station and obey the law officers and course monitors who are working hard to keep you safe and happy. Thank you!

Race Rules, Safety & Courtesy

Please line up at the start according to your pace. It's dangerous to faster runners if you do not line up at the appropriate position at the start. Elite runners are positioned at the front, followed by runners with an under 7 minute per mile pace, followed by 7 to 8 minute milers, then 8 to 9 minutes, and so on with the 13 to 15 minute milers in the back of the pack.

Stay on the right side of the road whenever possible and stay inside of the cones as indicated. Please obey law enforcement officers and course monitors at all times! They are positioned on course for your safety.

No roller blades, skateboards, animals or bicycles in the runners' lane. Baby strollers designed for runners are permitted but must begin at the back of the starting line.

Portable music with headphones are allowed but must be kept at low volume so runners can hear approaching traffic and verbal instructions from law enforcement and volunteers.

Thanks for your cooperation!
