The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon is a destination event held on Labor Day weekend. We encourage bringing your friends, family and running partners to spend time and enjoy this beautiful area. Considered the heart of the Willamette Valley, the Yamhill Valley is less then an hour drive from downtown Portland and encompasses multiple wine appellations. The race is staged on Sunday with race activities planned beginning on Thursday in Portland.
Registration is open to runners and fast walkers who can keep a pace of 16:00 per mile or better and finish in 3hr 30min or less. A Team competition and 2-Person Relay option are also available; see Registration page for details.
The course is USATF certified at 13.1 miles. The certification number is OR10007-LB. View detailed course information and maps.
The race is chip timed to provide accurate and fair results. Runners will receive a chip and gun time in the results. Top 3 overall M&F finishers are based on gun time, all other finisher results will use chip time. Results are posted at the event and online.
There will be a gear check area at the start and relay transition area for runners to place their warm-ups and other items in the bag provided by race staff. Gear check bags will be provided on race day morning. Write your bib number and name on the bags and they will be transported to the finish area for pickup. Any items left at the event will be donated to charity after 14 days.
The climate in the Willamette Valley in early September is typically ideal for a road race. Temperatures during race time (7:00am to 10:30am) average between the mid 50s to mid 60s. The high temperature in the afternoon could range from 65°F to 85°F. There is very little precipitation in September, although it is recommended that runners bring adequate clothing for a range of temperatures and conditions. There is exposure to the sun on this course so please wear sunscreen.
Medical support is provided at the start line, finish line and on-course. EMT services are on stand-by. Please train, prepare and hydrate for the race to best avoid suffering medical complications. Heat exhaustion, dehydration and chaffing/blisters are the most common medical ailments suffered by runners.
All runners MUST wear a race bib registered in their name, visible to race officials. We have no space or tolerance for “bandits” so if you are not a registered runner please do not attempt to run the race, or you will be removed in unceremonious fashion.
Music headphones are allowed but you must keep the volume down so you can hear vehicle traffic and voice instruction. If you are not able to hear or obey law enforcement voice commands you will be pulled from the course and DQ’d.
Baby strollers are allowed but you must start at the back of the pack and take extra precaution crossing intersections and when passing runners. Dogs or bikes are not allowed on the race course.
