Race Information

Registration is open to runners and fast walkers who can keep a pace of 15:00 per mile or better and finish in 3hr 30min or less. You may run a shorter distance by competing in the 2-person relay.

The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon is a destination event held on Labor Day weekend. We encourage coming with your friends, family and running partners and spending time to enjoy this beautiful area. The heart of the Willamette Valley is in the northern part (Yamhill County) and is less then an hours drive from downtown Portland. The race is staged on Sunday but we have activities planned beginning on Thursday in Portland.

Team Competition

Enter a team of 6 or more members and you'll be eligible to compete for awards in the team competition and receive a $10 discount on each entry fee. Teams must have a minimum of six members when registration closes and can be any combination of male or female. Runners must all complete the half marathon distance and will be timed individually. Your team times are handicapped by gender and age and scored by taking the top 5 handicapped times to produce a cumulative score. Awards are given to the top two teams.

2-Person Relay

Run with a partner and split the half marathon distance! Teams may be 2 men, 2 women or co-ed. No casual walkers please. Transportation is provided to and from the transition area and the start/finish areas. Team member A will run the first leg from the start to the transition area at Abbey Rd. Farms, then pass their timing chip to member B who will then run the second leg into Carlton. Team prizes are awarded in these categories: M/M, F/F, M/F.

Timing & Results

We the J-Chip computerized chip timing system. Your timing chip will have a number matched to you race bib. It should be placed on your shoe in order to pass over the timing mats. Results are posted at the event and online. Be sure to return your chip to the collection boxes after you finish or you'll be charged a $20 fee.

Race Awards

Top 3 Overall Male & Female

Masters

First place M & W finishers in the Masters division (must be 40 years or greater on race day) will be awarded a "Winer's" decanter trophy and magnum of wine.

 

Age Categories

A bottle of wine is awarded to top 3 male and female finishers in age division every 5 years over 21 years of age. Certificates are awarded to under 21 age group winners. Divisions are determined by the runner's age on race day.

2-Person Relay awards

Top team in the following categories, M/M, F/F, and Co-ed will receive awards.

Team awards

A team must have a minimum of 5 runners finish the half marathon to qualify as a team. Teams can be any combination of men and women. Times are handicapped by age and gender. The top five finishing times from each team are calculated for the cumulative team time. A magnum or case of wine and private tasting tour for up to 12 is awarded to the winning team. 2nd place receives a magnum of wine.

Gear Check

There will be a gear check area at the start and relay transition area for runners to place their warm-ups and other items in the bag provided by race staff. Bib number and name will be written on the bags and then transported to the finish area for pickup. Any items left at the event will be donated to charity after 20 days.

Weather

Climate in the Willamette Valley in early September is expected to be ideal. Temperatures during race time (7:00am to 10:30am) typically average between mid 50s to mid 60s. The high temperature in the afternoon should range from 65°F to 85°F. There is very little precipitation in September although it is recommended that runners bring adequate clothing for a range of temperatures and conditions. There is exposure to the sun on this course so please wear sunscreen.
